We are looking for a Backend Engineer to build and maintain the core backend services, APIs, and data systems that power Farmioc's products.

You will work primarily with Python and Node.js, building production services that handle agricultural data, commodity prices, market information, marketplace workflows, and integrations with external data sources.

The role involves backend application development, API design, database engineering, data processing, integrations, performance optimization, and production reliability.

You will work closely with product and engineering teams to turn requirements into reliable backend systems and reusable services.

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python, Node.js, or related technologies.

• Build REST APIs that support Farmioc's web applications, mobile applications, internal services, and data products.

• Implement business logic for agricultural data, market intelligence, marketplace workflows, user features, and platform services.

• Design clean and maintainable APIs with appropriate validation, error handling, authentication, and authorization.

• Build reusable backend components that can support multiple Farmioc products.

• Participate in API and system design decisions as the platform evolves.

• Build backend services for processing and serving agricultural and commodity market data.

• Develop data ingestion workflows for external data providers, government sources, partner systems, and other relevant sources.

• Validate, transform, normalize, and store incoming data for use across Farmioc products.

• Work with current and historical price data across commodities, markets, regions, and time periods.

• Build reliable integrations with external APIs and services, including appropriate retries and error handling.

• Investigate data-quality and integration issues and work with relevant teams to resolve them.

• Design and maintain database schemas for backend applications and services.

• Work with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, or other appropriate data technologies.

• Write and optimize SQL queries and database operations.

• Apply indexing, caching, pagination, asynchronous processing, and background jobs where appropriate.

• Identify and resolve API, database, and application performance bottlenecks.

• Design services that can handle increasing data volumes and application usage.

• Build backend services with appropriate logging, monitoring, error handling, and recovery mechanisms.

• Write automated tests for APIs, business logic, integrations, and critical workflows.

• Investigate production issues and contribute to root-cause analysis.

• Support application releases and resolve backend issues affecting production systems.

• Improve system reliability, maintainability, and operational stability.

• Consider practical constraints such as network conditions, payload size, and efficient data delivery when building services for users with limited connectivity.

• Work closely with product, frontend, mobile, data, and infrastructure teams.

• Translate product requirements into practical backend designs and implementation plans.

• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.

• Document APIs, services, data workflows, and important technical decisions.

• Identify opportunities to improve existing services and reduce unnecessary complexity.

• Provide reusable backend capabilities that can be consumed by customer-facing and internal applications.

• 3–5 years of experience in backend software engineering.

• Strong experience with Python or Node.js and practical backend development.

• Experience building and maintaining production REST APIs.

• Strong SQL and database fundamentals.

• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or similar databases.

• Experience working with external APIs and data integrations.

• Understanding of authentication, authorization, API security, and input validation.

• Familiarity with caching, background jobs, asynchronous processing, and performance optimization.

• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

• Good understanding of software development, testing, Git, and code review practices.

• Experience with Python frameworks such as FastAPI or Django, or Node.js frameworks such as Express.

• Experience working with Redis or similar caching technologies.

• Familiarity with message queues or background job systems.

• Experience with microservices or event-driven systems.

• Experience working with agricultural, commodity, financial, market, or other data-intensive applications.

• Familiarity with Docker, cloud platforms, and CI/CD.

• Experience building APIs consumed by web and mobile applications.

• Familiarity with AI/ML data services or integrating AI capabilities into backend applications.
