About the Role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work directly with food manufacturers, food processors, beverage companies, and ingredient manufacturers that source agricultural commodities and use them as raw materials.

You will understand customer workflows and data, build practical solutions using Farmioc's agricultural and commodity intelligence, and take those solutions from problem discovery through implementation and production.

What You'll Do

Customer & Solution Discovery

• Work with procurement, supply-chain, data, and technology stakeholders to understand customer workflows, data, and technical requirements across ERP, procurement, and supply-chain systems.

• Translate business problems into concrete solutions such as procurement timing, supply-risk alerts, alternate sourcing, ingredient cost outlooks, and demand planning.

Engineering & Data

• Build customer-facing solutions using Python, SQL, databases, REST services, and data-processing workflows.

• Integrate customer data with Farmioc datasets covering commodity prices and price outlooks, production, weather, and supply and demand forecasts across raw, semi-processed, and processed food categories.

• Map customer ingredients, products, SKUs, suppliers, and sourcing regions to relevant Farmioc commodities, food categories, regions, and market data.

• Develop data pipelines, analytical workflows, dashboards, scripts, and application components.

• Prototype, validate, and take successful solutions into production.

Analytics & AI

• Develop supply-risk and price signals for key ingredients and food categories using Farmioc and customer purchasing data.

• Apply LLMs, RAG, or AI agents where they provide clear business value, such as sourcing assistants for buyers or weekly procurement and market briefings.

• Validate data, analytical results, and AI outputs before they are used in customer workflows.

Deployment & Support

• Work with customer technology and security teams to test, deploy, and validate solutions.

• Troubleshoot and resolve application, data, database, integration, and performance issues.

• Document integrations, workflows, technical decisions, and operational requirements.

Product & Engineering Collaboration

• Identify recurring customer requirements that can become reusable Farmioc product capabilities.

• Evaluate whether requirements should be addressed through existing Farmioc capabilities, customer-specific solutions, or product enhancements.

• Share customer feedback and implementation learnings with product and engineering teams.

What We're Looking For

• 3–5 years of experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, implementation engineering, data engineering, AI engineering, or a related field.

• Strong Python and SQL skills with experience working with databases and data-processing workflows.

• Experience building and deploying production applications, data solutions, or analytical systems.

• Ability to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions and work directly with stakeholders.

• Solid debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Comfortable working with ambiguous requirements, changing priorities, and customer-driven problems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with food manufacturers, food processors, beverage companies, or ingredient manufacturers.

• Understanding of agricultural commodity procurement, ingredient sourcing and substitution, supply risk, food-category demand, or raw-material cost management.

• Experience working with agricultural, commodity, food, procurement, trade, or market datasets.

• Familiarity with enterprise data platforms, ERP, procurement, or supply-chain systems, batch/file-based integrations, APIs, data governance, or customer security requirements.

• Experience with PostgreSQL or MongoDB, dashboards, LLMs/RAG, AI agents, Docker, cloud, or CI/CD.

Example Customer Problems

• Combine a manufacturer's purchase history with PriceHub prices and forecasts to recommend when to buy key ingredients.

• Flag expected shortfalls in critical crops and suggest alternate sourcing regions or substitute ingredients based on Farmioc supply and market intelligence.

• Bring Farmioc price outlooks into a customer's ERP so category and costing teams can see raw-material cost trends alongside their own margins.
